Yogurt is a cultured product that contains lots of probiotics which strengthen your digestive track
and help to maintain a healthy balance of good bacteria in your body.
Natural yogurt is a good source of protein that also contains valuable calcium. When you make it yourself it will be free from artificial colors, flavors and sweeteners. Before I began making my own yogurt regularly I had a difficult time finding plain whole milk yogurt in the grocery store and, when I was able to find it, the yogurt often had added sugar which I feel is completely unnecessary. The truth is; the less sugar you consume, the less you crave it. When you lose your craving for sugar you are able to notice and enjoy all the more subtle flavors of food because sugar actually numbs your taste buds. Therefore, making your own yogurt is a great step towards reducing your consumption of sugar. And if you are really wanting sweet yogurt you can always drizzle some honey or maple syrup on it for an occasional treat.
